Tax Issues and Independent Contracting
You can never get away from Uncle Sam! Most work from home jobs pay you as an independent contractor. You receive a check for the full amount of your earnings with no taxes deducted. You are responsible for all taxes due and may need to pay quarterly (April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15 in most years). A tax expert can set that up for you.
The problem is – if I am working from home as a customer service representative – I have phone, internet, office supplies, equipment, and home office expenses, but certainly nothing substantial. The tax benefits aren’t nearly as great as when you are THE business owner!
Others will receive a Form W-2 like in most “typical jobs”. Taxes will be deducted and you truly are a work from home employee!
