Researching Work From Home Scams

Work From Home Scams

Researching Work From Home Scams can save you a lot of time, money, and hassle through prevention. Thankfully in this internet age finding the information you need is simple and highly effective.

Gathering Data on a Work From Home Company

You need to ask yourself these questions:

  • What is the MAIN website (www.) for this company
  • What is the MAIN name being used or promoted for this company

Yes, with just that information – you can begin researching!

Using Google for Work From Home Scam Research

The easiest way to find out if a company is legit is by googling them. You should do this both using the company website (www.) as well as the company name.

Here is a quick Google 101 lesson with examples for those who need it:

Search: Elenni.com scam or Elenni scam

This is known as a broad search. It looks at synonyms and at each word separately to produce the most results (but often is least accurate). Most people use this method.

Search: “Elenni.com scam” or “Elenni scam”

This is a phrase search. A search result must have a version of this phrase on the page. It is often more accurate.

Search: [Elenni.com scam] or [Elenni scam]

This is an exact match search. The search result must have elenni or elenni.com scam exactly as written on the page.

Judging Results

Not all results were created equally. The scammer themselves may have written them. What I look for when reviewing the results is authenticity. I like to see authentic discussions about the company. You will often see these on forums and blog comments.

Make sure the website you are on is legitimate and as always – the more results over a longer period of time (take note of dates!) the better!

Not every review is going to be positive for any company of substance – but a large number (90%) ought to be if that company is going to remain in business!)

The Better Business Bureau

In the Work From Home World – The Better Business Bureau serves as almost a silent police force. It is often unmentioned – but a company does NOT have to be a member in order to have a file.

This means that you can research work from home companies regardless of membership to find if they may be a scam. And if you ever do get scammed – reporting the company to the Better Business Bureau may attract results.

The bottom line is The Better Business Bureau is a great way to research and report scams. However, legitimate companies can and have existed without membership.
